Computing and Online Safety
Computing Vision
To prepare our learners for their future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills that will equip them for an ever-changing digital world. We put e-safety at the heart of our computing curriculum.
Our Computing Curriculum
We believe it is vital to show, even our youngest children, how to stay safe online. We place the up most importance on teaching e-safety. E-safety is at the heart of our computing curriculum.
Our computing curriculum uses the Teach Computing scheme of work and is also supported by Purple Mash and Kapow.
Using PurpleMash in EYFS - March 2023
In the Duckling class we have been learning how to use the paint tools in the PurpleMash app to create flower pictures and Easter images. We can now select the colour of the pen, alter the size of the stroke and the effect and print the image out independently!
This term KS1 are looking at how to use a computer safely and how to work word processor. The children worked in groups and learnt different keys on the keyboard.
How do we keep our children safe online?
As well as filter systems in school, to keep our children safe when online, all laptops in school use the safety button ‘the big red button’ which advise children what to do if they see something that worries them online.
Our digital leaders in school are a group of our year 5/6 children. The digital leaders play an active and important role in promoting safer online usage, provide support and advice to other children in school, support key stage 1 in computing lessons, assist staff in using technology e.g. in assembly time, and are responsible for helping maintain the technology in school.
Each term, we hold a online safety talk for parents, ran by the Cyber Team at Derbyshire Police. The last talk took place on Wednesday 9th November 2022 which was held in school.
As part of our drive to raise the awareness of online Safety, and to help our Street Lane school community become more responsible Internet users, we have set up an Online Safety Group. The group consists of parents, teachers and governors. The purpose of the group is to share knowledge, skills and ideas, generate new fundraising and school event ideas, monitor and review policies, and to engage our school community in the importance of online safety.

360Safe Review of E-Safety
In order to keep our pupils and school community safe online, and to move forward with e-safety, we have completed the 360Safe review. This is a comprehensive online review of our practice and policy on e-safety. This review will allow us to celebrate our successes and identify ways in which we can continually improve our practice to ensure our children are safe online.

Parent videos
National Online Safety have worked with tv presenter, Myleen Klass to create online safety videos for parents.
It might seem obvious that parents know what their children are doing online. However, when National Online Safety spoke to schools and listened to their feedback, it became clear that parents needed help and advice now more than ever.
Take a look at these short videos and details of how you can access the free courses:

E-Safety Pupil & Parent Talks- November 2022
Thank you so much to our PCSO for carrying out an e-safety talk in a whole school assembly followed by an after school parents talk. Following the meeting, here are some links to websites that parents may find useful for accessing more information on keeping children safe online. I would highly recommend the Common Sense Media site for checking age restrictions on apps, games, movies and websites.

Safer Internet Day 2022
Every year at Street Lane, we celebrate Safer Internet Day by holding a whole school e-safety day. This year, as part of our work to ensure that we all stay safe online at Street Lane Primary we organised an e-safety week which included activities centred around how to stay safe when online and knowing what to do if we don’t feel safe.
The theme of the day was ‘Exploring respect and online relationships’. Throughout the week, children took part in a drama workshop, a talk by a police officer, classroom activities and whole school assemblies.
